New Image Span

I need a solution

I am trying to save an image to a thumb drive.  The thumb drive is 128GB.  The image is less than 64.  Everytime I try to create the image it says that there is not enough space so I choose high compression.  Then it says that it needs to create another image span.  I have created images of this size on a thumb drive before without spanning them and I do not want to span them. It should just be 1 image.  I do not want to go across multiple files, please tell me how to fix this.  I cannot find sufficient technical documentation to help figure out how to stop this from occurring.  Any advice is appreciated.

Auditing computers imaged by Symantec Ghost 11

We were using Symantec Ghost 11.0.2.1573, were switching platforms because of budget reasons. I heard there was way that Symantec can audit the computers that have been imaged by Ghost is that true? Also all of images are.GHS files if we convert them to another platform will the Ghost "audit" file still be on those images or will we have to sysprep a new image from scratch?

GSS 2.5 - all of a sudden poor performance

I need a solution

Hey all....I have to image classrooms on a regular basis, and until recently I have been pleased with the transfer rate of the images. The network is a 1 GB network (cabling,  unmanaged switches, and NICS). I would constantly get +1500 MB transfer rate to 20 machines at a time. However, over the past few days, my transfer rate has dropped to barly holding at 200 MBs...and sometimes much lower than that (around 60-70 MBs). Machines vary, but are all Dell 745s, 755s, 780's, and 790s. Drivers are either Broadcom 5XX for the 745s or the Intel 1000 for the others. Boot straight into Ghost from the console using WinPE.

Nothing has changed. Im green across the board for the 1 GB network, and I cant see any broadcast storm happening unless im multicasting. Im at a loss as to why the sudden slowdown, and have no idea where to check first. I've tried multiple images, so its not a problem with a specific image or room. I did notice however that since they are unmanaged switches, the image im sending is going EVERYWHERE. If I remove the other rooms from the network, the transfer rate does increase slightly, but not by a large amount.

Any ideas on where to check? I see alot of people posting they get 200-300 MBs, so I guess I got spoiled seeing +1500 MB. I want that back as alot of these images are 70-80 gigs each and I have to image them on a weekly basis!

I know, I know..I could solve it all with a nice VLAN switch, but tell that to my boss :)  Hope someone has some ideas as to why the sudden slowdown...Thanks for all your help!

Ghost not working since BIOS Update (T440)

I need a solution

Hello guys,

I don't know which informations you exactly need to maybe help me in this case. So I share everything I can.

We already used T440 and Ghost to boot via PXE and image it with our customized image.

We received our new delivery which are BIOS updated. The old BIOS version was GJET76WW (2.26) and the new BIOS version is now GJET78WW (2.28).

In the new BIOS version I receive the errormessage "Cannot create a File Preservation Metadata File at path ".".

I hope you can help me.

Thank you.

OptiPlex 9020 - two 4 TB drives in RAID 1

I need a solution

I have an OptiPlex 9020 with two 4 TB hard drives in RAID 1, and I'd like to image it (Win7x64) with ghost64 seeing the hard drive as a single 3.6 TB volume...not as two 1.8 TB volumes due to a 2 TB limit.

If I boot the PC from the Win7x64 install disk, it shows two volumes...but if I load the SATA RAID drivers, it properly shows a single volume, which is how I want it. Sure, I could install Win7x64 from scratch this way, but the thing is that I'd like to _image_ multiple 9020s with this same setup.

I have already set the BIOS to UEFI boot.

I have obtained Boot Disk Creator 12.0.0.6277, and I have been able to create a ghost64 bootable CD running Windows 8 based PE. I can boot the PC in UEFI from this CD and drvload the Ethernet drivers, but it doesn't have the SATA RAID drivers, so it shows two 1.8 TB volumes.

The big question: how do I get the SATA RAID drivers onto the WinPE/Ghost64 boot disk?

I am currently using GSS 2.5. My department just approved the purchase of DS 6.9, and I'll have that ready to install once the purchase order makes it through our purchasing department. Will DS 6.9 be able to handle this more smoothly? Am I wasting my time on this given my upcoming DS 6.9?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Error: could not allocate page table memory

I need a solution

Hello my name is Marcus and i just started working at a school as IT technician who uses Symantec ghostcast and i must admit im fairly new to it and have only used it a few times.
My problem is with the new laptops we are using (Lenovo L440).

For the older laptops (Lenovo L430, Lenovo L420) there have been boot images already made before i started working here and they seem to be working fine but not for the L440.

i use PC DOS and not WinPE since PC DOS were already setup, and do it over the network.

The initial problem was that it did not even get to the Ghost cast menu, i solved this by going in to the autoexec.bat and adding "ghost.exe"  the original file only had "ngctdos.exe"

After that i got: Cannot create a file preservation metadata file at path "."
I went back in to the autoexec.bat and poked around a bit, and solved the issue by removing "CD \GHOST" and chaged "ghost.exe" to "\ghost\ghost.exe" to make it run.

Now i get to my current problem, i get as far as i can type in Session name and select what disk i want to create image from and just as it starts so tranfering files and it just stops at "Current file: 88 chs_boot.ttf" or sometimes at "Current file: 91 kor_boot.ttf" and gives me the following error message:

Error: could not allocate page table memory
General failure reading Drive A
Insert disk with \COMMAND.COM in driva A

Press any key to continue. . .

i've tried to change location of ghost.exe to the root folder and change that in autoexec.bat to match up but that just gave me more problems so right now im stuck with that error message, if there is anyone who could help i will be very greatful!

Sysprep windows 7 during get image

I need a solution

Hello,

I know I had this working at one point but e moved away from GSS to Acronis because there was no new development happening.  Then I recently saw GSS had Window 8 support.  It works way better than Acronis so I'm back.

What I can't remember is how I was creating images with Sysprep.  When I try to sysprep the system using a Get Image task, I get an itneractive services message on the client that I'm hoping to image and then nothing happens.

It's the exact same issue here:  http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/fighting-gh...

I'm hoping that something has changed since then and there's a way to do it.  Can someone help me out?

Thanks,

Brian

Ghost64.exe -ib. Is the '-ib' option still needed using version 12.0.0.6282? What about the upcoming GSS 3.0?

I need a solution

A long while back we adjusted our command line arguments to include the '-IB' option. This ensured that when we dumped an image it would be intact and inclusde the boot sector.

You can read about it here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

I that still necessary in version 12.0.0.628? Do you forsee it still being necessary in the upcoming GSS 3.0? Just curious.

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5

I need a solution

I work as technical support for an institution. I have different models of computes including HP, Dell, Acer,...

I am using Symantec Ghost solution suite 2.5 only for Ghost imaging but not using Symantec Ghost Console.

I have DHCP Server to distribute IP to the clients while TCP/IP network boot.

I created pxeboot.n12 image using Ghost boot wizard and evrything (Ghost image creation and Restoration also works fine.)

My question is, recently we bought some new computers. we need to boot those new computers in network boot in order to either restore image or creating image.

The new computers are not booting in network boot. This is because the network drivers or Storage drivers are not included in pxeboot.n12.

Now i want to use these new computers to create and restore ghost images like the other existing computers.

Please help me on how to include NIC drivers or storage drivers into the existing tcp/ip network boot image(pxeboot.n12) that i have already, so that both existing computers and newly bought computers also should work.

Thank You,

Mohamed Saleem

Question about Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 & Server 2012.

We have an old version of Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 (Ghostcast Server 11.0.2.1573) and it is on Windows Server 2003 and are thinking of migrating to Server 2012.  Is this version compatible with Server 2012 or do we need to upgrade?

Ghost 11.5.1 / Ghost Solutionsuite 2.5 Multi Cast Issue

I need a solution

I'm running ghost solution suite 2.5 and ghost 11.5.1 client. Targeted machine is running Windows 7 x64 with 3 partitions.

Our current process replaces partition 1, 2, and 3 when we drop an image. However, that's wasted bandwith so I'm trying to narrow it down and target Partition 3 when we need to update the image on our terminals (The other 2 are used to store critical files).

currently, the commandline I've attempted to use is "ghost.exe -clone,mode=prestore,src=@mcDROPTarget,dst=1:3" however I get an abort error on the ghost client that states that there is a client/server missmatch in the command.

Even if I manually type the command, vs using the PXE boot menu, the missmatch occures. The output states that the server shows "dst=1:3" however the client shows "dst=1" reguardless of what I type.

If I manually start ghost, enter the session name and manually sellect the partition that I'm targeting, it works fine; the command line is where everything falls apart. With 850 identical computers to manage, I really need to find a solution.....

Erreur 19922 lors de la création de plusieurs images simultanément

I need a solution

Bonsoir,

Windows 8.1 - 'Encountered an NTFS volume with a logfile that has not been flushed'. I am using Ghost64.exe version 12.0.0.6282

I need a solution

Here is some set up info:

I am attempting to create an image of a laptop running Windows 8.1

I am using the updated Ghost64.exe file version 12.0.0.6282

I have Secure Boot turned off in the BIOS

I have the 'Turn on the Fast Startup' option in Windows turned off

I have run a check disk and it indicates that there are no issues with the drive

I keep getting the, "Encountered an NTFS volume with a logfile that has not been flushed (536)" when taking a Ghost image. I am doing a proper shut down but I continue to get the error.

This is basically the problem I am seeing:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

They acknowledge that it is a known issue in version 12.0.0.4570. I think it has been resolved in version 12.0.0.6282. I know this because I do not encouter this issue on most of the other machines I have used to test Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. Anyone have any thoughts on what I can try?

Copy .gho files from DVD to PC, then to new DVD, fails restore

I need a solution

On Panasonic CF-31 Toughbook with Windows 7 64-bit SP1, booted up from DVD with bootable Symantec Ghost 11.5.1 disk.  Created Ghost image of Toughbook hard drive (resulting in 2 DVDs), and tested image on a Ghost restore ("from image") successfully.  The Toughbook is delivered to the customer with this Ghost image on two DVDs, along with a bootable DVD containing Ghost 11.5.1.  They plan to use Ghost to restore the OS if needed.  This is non-negotiable for them.  Therefore, in case replacement disks are ever needed, we plan to store the contents of the Ghost image DVDs on a hard drive, to be used to create new DVDs.  We copied the .gho files from the DVDs onto a PC (keeping them separated into "Disk 1" and "Disk 2").  Then we burned the .gho files onto two new DVDs and attempted a Ghost restore from these DVDs onto a Toughbook.  We immediately get the error "The current disk is not the first in the set".  It definitely IS the first disk.  Tried to do a "Check Image File" with Ghost, same error.  Also tried making .iso copies of the two image DVDs, then burned the .iso's to new DVDs and attempted a restore.  Same error.  How do we store the Ghost image on a hard drive so that we can burn usable DVDs when needed?

Thanks.

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 - Will not install

I need a solution

I have this software to do backups of my home PCs and I have used GHOST in the past. I was hoping to be able to create a bootable DVD that I can use to restore from image automatically a NOTEBOOK that I am constantly reloading which is used for testing applications and I perfer to start with a clean image. Currently I am using an old version of GHOSTCAST SERVER 11.5 to do this with a boot disk which allows me to re-image the notebook.

I got the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 based on reading on the Internet that it would allow you to make a boot disk which would boot and re-image the machine. The NOTEBOOK image is about 2.89GB - so will fit on DVD.

I begin the installation after putting the CD in the drive. It pops up the install wizard and I choose the INSTALL GHOSE CONSOLE AND GHOSE STANDARD TOOLS option from the list. It begins the installation and then thows up the following message: YOU ARE INSTALLING ON AN UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM. YOU CAN CONTINUE WITH THE INSTALLATION.

WHAT THE WHAT??? If unsupported, why continue??? My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) and it is listed on the webpage as a supported OS. So what gives?

If I continue the installation it acts as if it is installing...gets to about 90-95% and BACKS OUT THE INSTALL - no reason why, by the time is all said and done - nothing gets installed.

How do I fix this, and why does the install fail?

Thanks,

*BH*
